Meet Dr ‘Calm & Caring’ Lewis

Meet Dr ‘Calm & Caring’ Lewis

As a dentist, I am particularly keen on improving our patients dental experience, whether that is through a gentle approach or speaking to our patients in a manner they understand and can relate to.

I treat others as I would like to be treated and feel that dentistry is a journey, a journey that I, our team and you the patient should take together!

When I’m not being a dentist, I enjoy getting outside as much as possible, whether that be on the mountain bike, the road bike or playing football. When I’m not outside I find myself in a gym doing a class or my own thing.

Along with experiencing local restaurants with friends, I like to experiment in the kitchen, relaxing with a beer as I try the latest creation!

In the summer, I try my best to tick places off ‘the list’, embracing the local history and culture as I go!

Meet The Rest of The Team

Meet The Calm & Caring Team, Cheryl Jones – Practice Manager

As a wife, mother and grandmother I enjoy spending time with my family, socialising, eating out, walking my very large dog Ella, going to the rugby and skiing. (Even though I am partial to breaking things!) My career started as a trainee dental nurse in private and NHS practice in Barry before moving to community dental nursing role and then to London to work as a dental nurse in Harley Street. I then managed pubs and restaurants with my husband for a few years before leaving to look after our children.

When I returned to the workplace I had a number of roles from a buyer in a new hospital to an estate agent. I returned to nursing about 19 years ago and started working with Andy 15 years ago. I was thrilled when Andy asked me to join him with his new venture at Advance Dental Care and I am proud to be part of a caring practice that has flourished and diversified to what you see today.

The most enjoyable parts of my job are helping our patients feel at ease, relaxed and comfortable during their visit. I love seeing patients happier and more confident with their smiles after their course of treatment.

Meet Calm & Caring Dental Therapist – Diane Lock

Outside of work I am a keen member of my local community and traders committee and enjoy organising events for residence and local charities. I also enjoy interfering in the running of my family “child care” business and spending my free time running around after my young children.

I qualified as a dental hygienist at University Hospital of Wales in 1999, and then progressed my education to qualify as a dental therapist in 2000.

I continue to work in both NHS and private sectors of dentistry and am involved in the campaign to promote and raise awareness of dental therapists and their treatment/care that they can provide.

Meet Your Dental Hygienist, Cheryl James

Cheryl says…”I have two gorgeous little boys who keep me busy outside of work and love spending time with my family and fur babies. I have two dogs and enjoy long walks as well as socialising and bike riding. I started work within dentistry as a dental nurse on Harley Street, London.

I found my main interest in dentistry was how to prevent diseases with excellent oral hygiene. I trained in Cardiff in 2003 and gained a diploma in dental hygiene. I enjoy my role, helping patients to maintain their teeth for life. I take a great interest in treating periodontal conditions and achieving excellent results. I also enjoy teaching patients about dietary facts and maintaining healthy enamel”

Meet Calm & Caring Receptionist, Laura Oliver

I am married and a mum of 3 beautiful children who keep me entertained. In my spare time I love spending time with the family, eating out and socialising.

My job role is a part time receptionist here at Advance Dental Care. I have worked here just over a year now. I have previously worked as an estate agent and travel advisor. I am also a fully trained first aider.

Meet Your Calm & Caring Receptionist, Angela Barrett

I enjoy socialising and love our team nights out, even when I am being bundled into a taxi after too much fun by my team mates. I have a son Dylan who is nine and I love playing football and going on bike rides with him. I enjoy a flutter on the horses and had a fab time with our team trip to Ascot.

I am also a keen poker player. I am part of the reception team at Advance Dental Care. I love my role meeting and greeting the patients. After being here for over 5 years now I feel they know me inside out.

Meet Your Calm & Caring Dental Nurse, Hollie Lewis

When I’m not in work I enjoy eating out, watching films and taking my dog Marshall out for walks with my brother or my husband. I also enjoy going on holiday, socialising with friends and family, exploring different cities, and skiing – although this might have to be put on hold for a while as I have a little one on the way!

I trained as a dental nurse at the University Dental Hospital and qualified in 2014 before working in a dental practice in Cardiff, where I met Andy. I then came over and joined the team at Advance Dental Care. I love being part of the calm and caring team and enjoy seeing the difference we make to our patients.

Meet Your Calm & Caring Dental Nurse, Rebecca Sidaway

When I am not in work I enjoy playing with my makeup collection, throwing weights around the gym and exploring the country with my boyfriend. My bucket list seems never ending but with such great patients I’m never in a rush to go away.

My family and I enjoy going to the cinema and for food when we all have some time together and I enjoy taking my boyfriend’s little sister to Porthcawl to go on the rides (only when it’s sunny of course!) I have recently qualified and absolutely love my job.

Seeing patients leaving the surgery happy makes me feel warm inside. I enjoy seeing patients being able to smile again. My job feels so rewarding and I cannot wait to expand my knowledge and be able to help more people.

Meet Your Calm & Caring Dental Nurse, Aga

“I took nursing path in 2008 enjoying the challenge of study and this new tangent in my life. I qualified in 2009 with additional radiography degree following later. I always loved working with people.

During my youth I used organise and run art therapy workshops with children and adults. Life prove to be interesting giving me opportunities of work as a designer and double bass maker. I love travels, food, dancing, wielding a sword and dwelling in nature.

My dream is to visit Mongolia on horseback and shoot some arrows. It is nice to join Andy’s team as they all are kind and carrying and joyous people.”

Meet Your Calm & Caring Dental Nurse, Suzanne Crockett

I started dental nursing in 1980 and qualified in 1986. I love being able to help people get over their fear of dentistry. Then I took two years out from dentistry to work with pigs and goats which was so much fun. My biggest love after family is motorbikes.

I follow all types of bike racing. I love going out on our motorbike as often as possible and going to the races. I live with my partner and have a daughter and four step daughters and two grandchildren, we also have two dogs which also keep us entertained.  I can’t wait to meet you so you can find out more about me and I can help you see how calm and caring dentist’s can be!
